AMZ Ignite’s Pre-Product Listing Checklist

Are you considering selling your products on Amazon South Africa? Before you dive in, it's crucial to ensure compliance with Amazon's Terms of Service, adhere to local South African legislation (for example: DOH, SAHPRA, SABIO), and verify that your chosen product category isn't gated, requiring Amazon's pre-approval (Dangerous Items, Adult Item and Baby Products to name a few). AMZ Ignite specializes in a thorough analysis to secure approval and ensure that your listing is compliant, preventing unnecessary delays, additional costs, and potential liability.

Key Considerations Before Listing on Amazon SA:
  • Gated Categories

  • Determine if your product falls into a gated category and apply for permission from Amazon if necessary.

  • Competitor and Profitability Analysis

    • Create a pre-product competitor report, including the average price, competition level, seller locations, and competitor reviews.

    • Conduct a product profitability analysis, evaluating the market, competition, and potential profitability.

  • Keyword Research

    • Perform in-depth keyword research to identify niches or gaps for positioning your product.

    • Understand customer search behaviour and assess keyword competitiveness.

  • Pricing Strategy

    • Calculate an ideal selling price.

    • Break down all Amazon costs, including FBA fees, shipping fees, return costs, and disposal fees, using AMZ Ignite's proprietary system.

  • Market Research

    • Conduct South Africa-specific market research using tools like Google Trends, SEMrush, and Takealot to gauge product demand.

  • Patent and Trademark considerations

  • Ensure that you have a trustworthy partner such as AMZ Ignite who can assist you with Patent, Copyright and Trademark research to ensure that your product does not infringe on any existing patents, copyrights or trademarks.

  • It is important to register a trademark for your product in order to be able to access all of Amazon’s Brand registry benefits and in order to protect your product and listing from Amazon ‘Hijackers’.

South African Labelling Requirements:

In adherence to South African law, ensure your product label includes the following information:

  • Name and Description:

    • Product name, trade name, or description.

  • Manufacturer Details:

    • Name and complete address of manufacturer/packer, importer, and country of origin.

  • Volume and Weight:

    • Net weight, volume, or number of contents in metric units.

  • Batch Information:

    • Distinctive batch, lot, or code number.

  • Date Information:

    • Month and year of manufacture and packaging.

    • Best consumption period.

  • Additional Requirements:

    • For pharmaceutical and industrial products the information must be in English.

    • Indicate if food products have been genetically modified (GM).
